What does FSRS mean?

FSRS stands for Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler. This open algorithm models factors including card difficulty, memory stability and the probability of recalling an answer. It uses these to choose a next review date.

How Oria adjusts the schedule

In Oria, flashcards and multiple-choice cards share the same FSRS scheduler. After an answer, their state and next due date are updated. The calculation takes account of the card’s history and the time since its last review.

For flashcards, your rating provides the difficulty signal. For multiple-choice questions, Oria can use correctness and response time. The schedule is therefore not identical for every card or every student.

What appears in your daily review

The session combines flashcards and multiple-choice questions due for review with available recall activities. On iPad, it can also offer document exercises. The FSRS scheduling described here applies to flashcards and multiple-choice cards.

You can start with due items before working on a new chapter. Cards created from your iPad notes can also join this system.

Give the schedule accurate feedback

If you forgot an answer, say so, even when it seems obvious after reading it. If a card stays difficult, return to the course: it may cover several ideas or require an explanation first.

If you miss a day, resume with the waiting items. Future due dates take the elapsed time into account. FSRS schedules when to review; understanding your course and writing useful questions are still part of your work.
